  • According to the National Household Survey on Drug Use and Health and the College Alcohol Study, among college students that were between the ages of 18-24, alcohol-related unintentional injury deaths increased 3% per 100,000 from 1,440 in 1998 to 1,825 in 2005.
  • Daily binge drinking has been found to reduce survival rates of patients with HIV by 6.4 years, a 40-percent decrease in life expectancy.
  • Because alcohol's effects do vary with age, an elderly person that drinks may experience slower reaction times, problems with hearing and seeing, and a lower tolerance to alcohol's effects; these factors obviously put older people at higher risk for falls, car crashes, and other types of injuries that may result from drinking.
  • Alcohol consumption by college students is associated with at least 1,400 student deaths and 500,000 unintentional injuries each year.
