  • Many experts in genetics estimate that over 50% of the causes of alcohol dependence are due to genes that lead to an increased "vulnerability" to alcoholism. A large majority of these geneticists believe that these particular genes affect some physiological component of the brain that is associated with the production of "impaired control," the hallmark of alcohol dependence.

  • A recent World Health Organization (WHO) report has stated that drinking causes at least 1.8 million deaths a year, or almost five percent of all worldwide deaths.   • Drinkers who consume alcohol with energy drinks are about twice as likely to report being taken advantage of sexually, to report taking advantage of someone else sexually, and to report riding with a driver who was under the influence of alcohol.
